A girl who performs live on camera, most often from home or a studio.

Camgirls originated back when live streaming was still sort of a novelty rather than reality. Girls would go for one on one discussions with guys, usually as part of their membership or personal sites. With better technology, this moved to a more "group" chat, but usually still restricted to members only to keep the costs and server requirements from getting out of hand.

However, after many generations and iteration, Live cam shows are truly amazing now, with up to 4K video, multiple cameras, and streaming that can support literally thousands of viewers. Camgirls now chat live with many people, often accepting times in return for doing certsain things or showing off.

Camgirls are, for all intents and purposes, what has replaced the personal site or an amateur site. Rather than a membership site, they have a personal page on a larger cam site, and perform for many people.
